Mel, a friend we met through our reading group and a regular volunteer for the Northumberland Wildlife Trust, offered to come and conduct monthly wildflower surveys throughout 2014. The results have given us a foundation for learning how to do our own surveys, monitoring the success or otherwise of existing plants and considering which plants we might think about planting and where. His knowledge has proved invaluable.
