Butterfly surveys are entirely in Tim's hands, ably assisted by his wife Jane. They have undertaken weekly transect surveys for three years now, submitting the results to Butterfly Conservation.
In August 2015, the first year of surveying, Tim informed us that 'most noticeable is the increase in numbers of Small Skippers and the crash in the numbers of whites, particularly Green Veined Whites. But a second flush of Green Veined Whites might be expected soon. There are 2 newcomers, Common Blue & Small Copper, and two seen last year that I haven't seen this year, Comma & Small Heath.'
His transect numbers at that stage in the year are here.
The equivalent results for 2016 are here.
This year (2017) Tim has produced charts showing the summaries for all three years as spreadsheet and bar charts.
He has also produced this fabulous butterfly identification aid, which we will be able to offer to Eilidh and her Forest School work with children. We can sense the need for another shed to be used as an Information Centre!
